STETHS off the mark with 4-0 win
St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) registered their first win of the season, 4-0 against Lacovia High, in their ISSA daCosta Cup Zone E match at Lacovia High playing field yesterday.
STETHS' got their goals from R-Jay Newman, Rahiem Whyte, Shemmar Stewart and Kaieem Lewis.
According to STETHS head coach Omar Wedderburn every game is crucial now and they will be looking to score goals after a long dry spell.
"Every game is a must win for us but we came here today with the mindset that we are going to score goals because it was long overdue," said Wedderburn.
"We are just taking our time and believing in what we are doing," Wedderburn added, noting the team is making the necessary adjustments.
In other games, Cornwall College clipped Maldon High 1-0 in a closely contested match. With the win, Cornwall moved atop Zone A with 10 points from three wins and a draw. Maldon are on nine points from three wins and one defeat. Cornwall's Ameche Robinson scored the winning goal early in the first half.
Cornwall ended the game with ten players as 15-year old Carlondo Morris was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct in the 75th minute.
Cornwall's head coach Hector Wright was also shown a red card at the end of the game.
"Basically what we did today was get a goal from early and then try to control the game," Wright said.
In high-scoring games, Manchester High thumped deCarteret College 9-0. Dinthill Technical hammered Tacius Golding 8-0, Ocho Rios thrashed Marcus Garvey 8-1, Belair High whipped Mt St. Joseph High 7-0 and Brown' Town blanked Discovery Bay 7-0.
In Hanover, the Zone B match between Rusea's High and Frome High game was called off during halftime due to continuous lightning and heavy rains.
Rusea's were leading 1-0, courtesy of a Omarion Jemmison goal, when the game was called off.
The Green Island High versus Knockalva High and Edwin Allen High versus Clarendon College games were also postponed.
