Alleged lottery scam trio nabbed in major police raid in Portland
Three men from Portland are now in police custody after being busted in a coordinated operation targeting lottery scam activities that allegedly targeted unsuspecting victims overseas.
The arrests were made by the Anti-Lottery Scam Unit within the Specialized Investigation Branch (SIB) during operations earlier this week.
Those charged are 22-year-old Jaheim Smith and 30-year-old Delroy Howard, both of Anchovy Land Settlement, and 26-year-old Kimani Pollack, of Kildaire, Buff Bay.
Police said that searches of the men's residences on March 23 and 24 yielded several electronic devices, including cellular phones, believed to have been used to defraud victims. Analysis of the devices reportedly revealed personal information belonging to people living abroad.
Authorities also seized a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota Mark X, along with over J$300,000 in cash.
The men were formally charged under the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) Special Provisions Act, 2013. Their court date is being finalised.
Police continue to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected lottery scam activities.
