Attorney for man seen on video being beaten by cops vows justice
A Trelawny man who was seen being repeatedly kicked and beaten by police in a viral video is now seeking justice, after being released without charge following the shocking incident.
Nickholos Chambers, 28, said the ordeal took place in Rio Bueno on March 13, leaving him shaken and demanding answers.
The disturbing one minute and 48 second video, which has been circulating widely on social media, shows Chambers being kicked multiple times by three policemen, two dressed in full denim uniforms, while he stood near a car.
Moments later, the situation escalated as two officers wrestled him to the ground before all three allegedly kicked, punched, and struck him repeatedly with what appeared to be a baton, as onlookers gathered.
It remains unclear what led to the confrontation.
According to his attorney, Donnovan Collins, Chambers was taken from the scene in a police service vehicle but was later released without any criminal charges.
"It is unfortunate how some JCF officers continue to abuse our citizens," Collins told The STAR, as he called for urgent action.
The attorney is appealing for intervention from National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang and Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake, insisting that steps must be taken to prevent such incidents.
Collins also revealed that his client intends to report the matter to the Independent Commission of Investigations and the police's Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.
In addition, Collins said his "firm" instruction is to file a lawsuit on behalf of his client.
