The mother of the two-month-old baby who was found unresponsive in a bucket of water in Top Hill, Manchester, is now in police custody.

Manchester Police confirmed that the woman, who was being sought following the tragic incident yesterday, has since been located. She is currently receiving medical attention.

Investigators also revealed that the mother is a mental health outpatient.

The infant was reportedly found in a bucket of water at a home in the quiet rural community, sending shockwaves across the area. The baby was pronounced dead, and police immediately launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

At the time of the initial report, the child's mother was being sought for questioning.

Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to piece together what led to the heartbreaking incident.
