Authorities probing patient death at Bellevue Hospital

Tragedy struck at Bellevue Hospital on Monday when a patient died on the compound, sparking questions and an internal investigation at the Kingston based mental health facility.

In a media release issued today, the institution confirmed the death and said an internal review has commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"The hospital is cooperating with the relevant authorities," the statement said.

Bellevue stressed that, out of respect for patient confidentiality and the privacy of the family, no further details will be disclosed at this time.

The hospital said the patient's family has been notified and extended its deepest condolences during what it described as a difficult period.

Bellevue further acknowledged the seriousness of the matter, emphasising that the safety and well being of patients remains central to its mandate.

"Bellevue Hospital remains committed to responsible governance and the ongoing delivery of mental health services in Jamaica," the release added.
