Two women killed in early-morning shooting in Harbour View
Shockwaves rippled through the Bayshore Park community in Harbour View on Thursday after an early-morning shooting left two women dead.
The deceased have been identified as 37-year-old Phyllis "Munchie" Powell and 82-year-old Merna Robinson, who are believed to be relatives.
According to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), both women were fatally shot during the incident. Investigators remained at the scene for several hours processing evidence as the probe continued.
While details surrounding the circumstances of the attack have not yet been disclosed, residents reported hearing loud explosions consistent with gunfire in the early morning hours. The women were later found with gunshot wounds.
Police have not indicated a motive for the killings.
The latest incident brings to six the number of females murdered in Jamaica this week, including a four-year-old girl, heightening concerns about ongoing violence affecting women and children across the island.
The police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to contact the Harbour View Police or Crime Stop at 311.
Up to February 7, the Kingston East Police Division had recorded one murder.
