Police need to monitor buses - National Secondary Students’ Council

Following the death of 14-year-old Jamaica College student, Nicholas Francis, the National Secondary Students’ Council (NSSC), is calling for the police to monitor buses and zones that students frequent in a bid to ensure their safety.

Francis died yesterday after he was stabbed in the left side of his chest when a man tried to rob him of his cell phone on a Coaster bus along Old Hope Road in St Andrew. 

While expressing sadness, the NSSC stressed that the safety of students should be a priority. 

The council also noted that it is important for students to be more observant of their surroundings and reduce their use of electronic devices while in the public. 

Meanwhile, the National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) has increased its call for their to be an exclusive school bus system, which will allow children to travel in safety and under less violent situation.
