Shawn Storm inspired to assist the youth

When dancehall artiste Shawn Storm was invited to perform at Sunday’s staging of Virgo Outreach Charity’s Back-to-School Bash on Sunday, the entertainer said he knew he had to make more than a performance contribution.

He said as he entered the stage and looked into the audience, he couldn’t help but remember the days of his youth.

“Yea man, when mi a youth and deh a Waterford, as mi and mi little friend dem hear about treat we would go and get we little package dem. Sometimes we would get call up on stage and we do we little thing and collect and ease off some of the pressure off mommy pocket. When mi see how the people dem come out to this treat, man, it just remind me of those days, and mi know mi have to play my part,” he said.

The entertainer said that he gave away about 100 school bags and some shoes and laptops.

“I couldn’t say no when the organisers reach out and ask me to show up. I couldn’t say no because mi love see children, and education is what a lot of dem going to use and win,” Shawn Storm added.

Virgo Outreach Charity is a community-based organisation based in Kingston. While persons from all walks of life benefit from their outreach, the target is to support families and students across the East Central St Andrew constituency, impacting communities such as Cassia Park, Hagley Park, and Maxfield. Held on Dunrobin Avenue, the bash also featured performances from Kibaki and the Trail Blazer Marching Band.

“It was a good vibe to be out there with the children and their families, eno. Mi member dem days deh as a little youth too, how excited me use to be when treat a keep, because mi a go come back with a bag a tings. It was just a day fi di children dem, and from dem enjoy dem self, it is a good look. Big up the organisers fi tings like dis,” Kibaki said.
