Selector Fire Links’ offspring follows his footsteps

Dane Phillip Johnson, son of legendary sound system selector Fire Links, is carving out an enviable reputation for himself as not only a selector, but as an artiste and slang master.

The young entertainer, who uses the moniker 1Brandon, has been steadily making a name for himself in the industry. The up-and-coming entertainer grew up in Mandela Terrace off Waltham Park Road in St Andrew and attended Norman Manley High School. He first played on his father's sound system, Fire Sound, as a teenager.

"My father is my inspiration to music," said 1Brandon, who described himself as more of a juggling selector.

"My major accomplishment is that I originated the most popular slang in dancehall of 2022 which is #thisisdancehall, ... and 'selector play'," 1Brandon said.

1Brandon ventured into music as a disc jockey in 2016, playing and performing MC duties at different community events. He started working with his cousin, DJ Stainy, as the MC for Game Changaz 876 sound in 2020 and later voiced his first song, Start Wine for Formation Gadz Music.

"Game Changaz 876's significance is bringing a difference to dancehall because of how we play music and our commitment to the craft," he said.

Last year, he released the single Wah Fi Tap Eh on the 'Dancing Time' rhythm.
