Bounty Killer surprises fans with USA performance
When Bounty Killer's iconic voice echoed through the speakers inside the Miami Marine Stadium in the US recently, patrons were stunned.
Some wondered whether their ears were playing tricks on them, as they knew that the 'Warlord' does not possess a work visa to enter the USA.
But he was in the building, albeit performing remotely, at Dandy Shandy, a '90s themed dancehall event. The dancehall icon performed live via satellite and took the dance to another level for 20 epic minutes.
When asked about the move to add Bounty Killer, Jazzy T of the promotion team said the 'Poor People Governor's place in dancehall made it a no-brainer'.
"Bounty is one of the most iconic dancehall artistes to emerge from the '90s era. We wanted to do something different and create history for our patrons and the brand, and Bounty didn't disappoint," Jazzy T said. "He didn't even have a reverse camera and was unable to see the vibe of the dance while performing ... but he's a professional and was incredible!"
Earlier, KingPin of King Addies entered the arena and curated a sizzling performance that seemed to have every woman in the party in 'bruck out' mode.
KingPin said: "The '90s is a very special and influential era in dancehall music. It's also the era that King Addies and artistes like Bounty Killer dominated together, and both emerged as music legends. So, taking the crowd back to that epic time in 2022 is a blessing."
A collaborative effort between long-time friends, Dandy Shandy is one of the US east coast's premiere Caribbean party brands. Its dance floor was fun-filled with beautiful patrons flying in from all over the US andJamaica. Among the who's who were rapper Busta Rhymes, reggae crooner Christopher Martin, soca legend Bunji Garlin, and dancehall star Tifa.
Dandy Shandy occurs twice a year, and its 'Lime Tree Lane'-themed event will bless Miami Marine Stadium again on November 25.
The most recent staging, the 'Video Light' edition, was a vibe similar to an uptown Kingston street party, complete with a coconut jelly man selling fresh coconut water, as well as a Mobile Smoke Truck, a King Patty truck and a Grace Jerk truck on deck. Patrons also enjoyed music from players like HMV Sound, Renaissance's DJ Delano with Walshy Fire, and Massive B's Jabba and Chudney Shotta.
