Excelsior go for 10th straight title

Excelsior High School and coach Xavier Gilbert can achieve a major milestone today when they take on Camperdown High in final of the ISSA schoolgirls' football competition at Wolmer's Girls' playing field, starting at 3 30 p.m, as they have the chance of winning a 10th straight title.

In Tuesday's semifinals, Excelsior secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Merl Grove High, while in the other semi-final at Eltham High School, Camperdown cruised to a 4-0 win over Garvey Maceo.

MASTERFUL DISPLAY

Defending champions Excelsior High delivered a masterful display in their semifinal, dominating possession and creating a host of chances.

The Mountain View Avenue-based school got their first goal from Calaie Stewart in the 18th minute and Yasheka Lewis secured the win with a 60th minute strike.

In the other semi-final, Camperdown High also turned in dominant performance to beat Garvey Maceo High 4-0.

Oneilla Perkins opened the scoring after five minutes and Reneece Smith made it 2-0 in the 18th minute.

Tecia Gayle scored a third in the 24th minute for Camperdown to go into the break with a 3-0 lead.

Jamelia Thomas would get the only goal of the second half, scoring in the 75th minute.

After their impressive victories on Tuesday, today's decider is expected to be an exciting contest.
