National U20 striker gleeful after hat-trick gives Arnett big win
National Under-20 striker Giovanni Taylor bagged his first Jamaica Premier League (JPL) hat-trick to lead Arnett Gardens FC to a resounding 4-0 win over Racing United FC at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in the lone Monday game.
Taylor scored in the seventh, 12th and 45+3 minutes, with Ronaldo Lawrence getting the fourth in stoppage time.
The 18-year-old Taylor, son of Harbour View FC legend Fabian Taylor, is currently high on confidence after netting four goals in the recent Concacaf U20 qualifiers, to lead the young Reggae Boyz into the final round.
"I feel good. It's hard work from training, so I feel good. The persons who give me the confidence are my mother and my father and coach Phillip (Williams), who always tells me to go out and do my best and I think it is paying off," the young striker said.
"Scoring four goals for the U20s boost my confidence and I just carried it over into the Premier League," Taylor added.
Arnett took the lead after only seven minutes when Taylor capitalised on a poor clearance to score from six yards.
The national U20 striker doubled the home team's lead six minutes later, turning home Ricardo Thomas' low cross from from seven yards out.
Racing would press to get back into the game, but they fell further behind in first-half stoppage time when Taylor capitalised on another poor defensive clearance and steered the ball home from just inside the box, to seal his hat-trick.
