National indoor and outdoor 800 metres record holder Navasky Anderson said his recent indoor performances are an indication that he is on the right track to achieve his outdoor goals.

"My last five races have been five national records and that's just telling us that I have been doing something right. I have been training, trying to stay healthy, trusting the process and just remaining focused," he said.

Anderson started off the indoor season with a national record of 1:46.10, which he lowered to 1:44.75, earning an automatic spot to the World Indoor Championships scheduled for March 20-22, at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena in Torun, Poland.

He said this achievement was not necessarily in the plans.

"Honestly, I came over to Europe with the intention of just racing twice and then just going back home for some quality training," he said.

PLAN B

Nevertheless, there was a Plan B in mind if his times looked good.

"(It) is a nice time of course to go and race indoors so, I decided to stay in Europe for another month and keep training and just get ready for the World Indoor Champs as a part of the plan for greater success outdoors," the 1:42.76 national 800m outdoor record-holder said.

With the Commonwealth Games approaching, where he finished fifth at the 2022 staging, and having the World Ultimate Championships and a few other meets in his sight, Anderson said his main aim is to remain fit and produce some good results.

"To be in the best shape possible and execute and coming back home successful, hoping that I am healthy and fit coming around that time and just getting the job done," he said.

FAITH

Anderson's said these times and achievements are a result of his faith in God.

"My talent is an assignment from God so you always have to put God first in everything that you do and glorify His name for sure. Then He will continue to bless me, guide me in the right direction, keep me humble and keep me grounded. That's why I always glorify His name and motivate the other athletes to be consistent and trust in God. Through consistency the results will come," he said.

TYRICE TAYLOR

He is not the only Jamaican performing well as the national record was taken for a short while by Rivaldo Marshall with a time of 1:45.62, before Anderson reclaimed it, and fellow countryman Tyrice Taylor is also producing quality times, such as his 1:46.11 run.

Anderson said the rivalry is good.

"Friends and rivalry, of course. All of us together are on a path toward success of course. We are trying to motivate and influence the younger generation of Jamaica and show them that, yes, we too can be dominant in the 800m," he said.
