Fesco commits to Waterhouse FC’s youth programme
Waterhouse Football Club (WFC) received a massive boost when Future Energy Source Company Limited (Fesco) announced a $1.5-million sponsorship for the club's youth programme.
With the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Under-17 competition set to start in less than a week and with the Under-13 and Under-15 teams due to travel to the Miami Cup in May, WFC director with responsibility for youth programmes, Nicola Bicknell, pointed out that Fesco is now the biggest sponsor of their youth programmes.
"Fesco opened a station close to Waterhouse (57 Spanish Town Road) and I heard they were interested in community projects. So I got their contacts, asked if they were interested and sent them a proposal for Waterhouse's senior and youth programmes.
"They said they were interested in both, but saw where the need to help the youth programmes was extremely important," Bicknell disclosed.
"So they invested $1.5 million in the youth programme, which will benefit us because we have U13, U15, U17 and U20 teams."
Previously, TankWeld was the main sponsor for the youth programmes, with support from Dairy Industries, but the Fesco sponsorship has made them the premier supporter for the club's youth programmes.
"Our youth team is now in a good place. We are looking for other sponsors to complete the budget, but overall we are very happy," Bicknell said.
"There is such a great need in the community for the youths to have football in their lives. Nearly 100 players turned out for the first fay of trials for the U20s, so that shows the demand," she shared.
"The Under 17 (competition) starts this Saturday. That will be our first team event for the year. In June, July the U13 and U15 will be travelling to the US next month to prepare in the Miami Cup.
"They made the quarter-finals and semi-finals of KSAFA last year and we are hoping to better that this year. So we are expecting great things," Bicknell stated.
"Having the support of Fesco means the world to our players and their families. It helps us keep grassroots football accessible to all and shows our kids that the community believes in them," she noted.
"It has been great working with Jeremy Barnes and Stefan Ebanks, who have shown a great interest in Waterhouse, and showing great support."
Fesco's Managing Director, Barnes, said the community is at the heart of everything they do at Fesco .
"We believe in supporting initiatives that bring people together, and the Waterhouse Football Club is a shining example of teamwork, perseverance, and local pride," he said.
"Waterhouse Football Club has become a cornerstone of youth sport in the region, with a track record of both competitive success and community involvement," Barnes added.
Ebanks, head of Business Development, Sales, Marketing & Communication at Fesco, noted Fesco's additional commitments.
"We are honoured to be embraced by the community and we have embraced them in the design of our newest Service Station project at 57 Spanish Town Road. For the community, we added a six-a-side turf football field and homework centre," he commented.
