Father of murdered 10-y-o Shani Coke dies 2 weeks after her funeral
The father of 10-year-old Shani Coke, who was raped and murdered in July, has died just weeks after laying his daughter to rest.
Aston ‘Junior’ Coke, who had been battling colon cancer, died at Mandeville Hospital early this morning.
A relative confirmed his death.
Coke's passing comes approximately two weeks after Shani's funeral, adding another layer of heartbreak to a family still grieving the brutal death of the child.
Coke had been battling the devastating loss of his daughter while also dealing with his illness.
In the aftermath of Shani's killing, Coke spoke of his daughter with deep affection, describing her as a sweet and caring child who excelled academically at Troy Primary School.
He had also expressed his anguish after Shani's body was discovered in Tyre, Trelawny, following her disappearance on her way to a nearby shop.
Shani's killing triggered outrage in the community, with suspected killer Delroy Coke later fatally attacked by a mob.
Police have stressed that they have not confirmed that Delroy Coke was responsible for Shani's rape and murder.
