Jamaica's hopes of contesting the women's 4x400 metres relay at the World Athletics Indoor Championships have taken a major hit after late withdrawals forced officials to scrap the team entirely.

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) had earlier named a six member relay pool that included Nickisha Pryce, Shana Kaye Anderson, Leah Anderson, Kelly Ann Beckford, Natoya Goule Toppin and schoolgirl standout Shanoya Douglas.

But the plans quickly unravelled after Pryce and Douglas both withdrew from the team, leaving the relay squad without enough athletes to mount a challenge at the championships.

Following the shake up, the JAAA released an updated squad list which no longer features a women's 4x400m relay team.

Pryce had also been down to compete in the women's individual 400 metres.

Meanwhile, Jamaica's squad has taken another blow with Rivaldo Marshall also pulling out. Marshall had been scheduled to run in the men's 800 metres and was also listed in the men's 4x400m relay pool.

The World Athletics Indoor Championships are set for Torun, Poland from March 20 to March 22, where Jamaica will now compete without a women's 4x400m relay team.
