Portland contractor charged with assault, possessing weapon

Forty-two-year-old contractor Jerome Williams of Ranch Hill, Port Antonio, Portland, has been charged for allegedly attacking men doing work in his community.

He is charged with professing to have a prohibited weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon and assault at common law.

Reports from the Port Antonio police are that about 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, Williams approached two men who were planting light poles in a section of the community and queried what was happening.

One of the two men informed him they had permission, however, he took away the man's machete and told him he would uproot them.

Moments later, the man saw Williams running towards him, with the machete in one hand and a firearm in the other, threatening to shoot him.

The man ran to escape injury and reported the matter to the police.

Brown was pointed out and taken into custody later that day.

He was subsequently charged on Monday, August 25, after he was interviewed in the presence of his attorney.

His court date is being finalised.
