Here come cheaper light bills
February 03, 2017
The promise of cheaper energy has moved one step closer to reality following the signing of a
contract for the construction of a new power plant.
The plant, which will cost US$330 million, is expected to be completed by early 2019.
A highly anticipated project, the 190-megawatt power plant to be built in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, by Spanish contracting firm TSK.
The 190-megawatt power plant will not only facilitate fuel diversification with a cleaner fuel, which is important to Jamaica as an island state, but will also allow The Jamaica Public Service Company to retire its ageing plant in Old Harbour Bay.
