Chief Executive Officer of the National Works Ageny, E.G. Hunter, said his entity is in the process of assessing the impact of recent rainfall on the island.

"Very little reconstruction will be done in the next couple of days. Simultaneously with the clearance of the roads, we will be doing an assessment," Hunter said.

"There has to be a process of prioritisation, because given our fiscal position, one has to be very smart and very intelligent in terms of how we choose what we work on and when. So, I think the Government is going to require some understanding and some patience, because given the enormity of what we have seen, it is not going to be a cheap exercise," he added.

Jamaica experienced persistent heavy rainfall from May 13 to May 15. The parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, St Mary, Portland, and St Ann have been severely impacted.
