Perry InChrist finds his ‘Hiding Place’ in God

Gospel singer Perry InChrist says his latest single Hiding Place was inspired by a personal experience.

"As a young Christian in a secular world with mostly secular people around you, it becomes difficult at times to remain faithful to God. It is not a case where I wouldn't know right from wrong but there are times when mistakes are made. I wanted to be transparent throughout the song while being relatable to the listener," he said. Hiding Place, which is produced by Bullpuss Entertainment, was released on April 7.

"All of my songs are inspired by the word of God, and Hiding Place was no different. Psalm 32:7 identifies God as our hiding place," he added. The video for Hiding Place was shot along the Palisadoes main road in east Kingston. It was directed by Shvckwave, while visuals were captured by Pimp Banga Visuals. Perry InChrist explained the concept behind the video.

"As people would have observed, I would have been carrying a big bag on my back as I struggled to move from one point to the other. On the bag, you would have seen negative words that most people experience at some point in their life. Some of the words were depression, failure, anxiety, hatred, and so on. What it all represents is that the reality of life means that we will encounter these situations at some point or another. However, with God being our hiding place, these things will slowly fade away. In the video, we saw when some of the words started to go away with the wind, which represented transformation," said Perry InChrist.

Born Perry Cummings, the 24-year-old is from Kitson Town in St Catherine. He got baptised at the age of nine.

"I have been doing gospel music for two and a half years. Some of the producers that I have worked with include Sherwayne Music Production, Smashing Muzikk Entertainment, DJ Shunz from the UK, Trinidadian producer Shaka Pro, Christopher G Records and Jahram Worldwide. As it is now, I have been consistently working with Bullpuss Entertainment," he said.

He continued, "My goal in music is to transform lives through the music that I do. The aim is to positively impact those who listen to what I offer to the table. Bob Marley, up to this day, is a giantlike influence in the music of reggae, and I would like to be the Bob Marley of gospel music."
