Radio host Honica 'Honi B' Brown is no stranger to the microphone, with years of experience working in broadcasting, but she admitted that many persons would be surprised to know that she is also a recording artiste.

She recently released her track Ruthless, a collaborative effort with Prime Time Music. It is her third single, following her genesis in music nearly two years ago.

"It was October 2021. I had only been home from Japan for about a month and was hanging one evening with my friend, the artiste Prestige, and listening to music. Spice and Cham's song, Condensed Milk, had just dropped, and it came on. We listened and found it kind of funny, to be honest. Prestige, out of nowhere, started singing, ' Tin Mackerel, Tin Mackerel', in the tune of the song. Then I chimed in, ' My supmn nice like a Tin Mackerel'," she revealed.

"I remember we got in the car and drove around the block, creating the verses. The following day, which was a Sunday, we pulled up at Yardstyle Entertainment Studios to lay the track. Big up to JJ Wizzle, who created a new beat right then and there, made a new chorus and verse and bam, my first single was born," she added. Tin Mackerel was released that November.

While she is desirous of taking music seriously, she admitted that she is striking the balance between music and her job, as she loves both.

She revealed that Tin Mackerel, which she considered a gimmick, has provided other musical opportunities.

"Prime Time Music heard the song and invited me to a recording session. Jason Coy, the producer, he heard something I hadn't. I went to see him and we started listening to various beats and we wrote Ruthless that evening, just bouncing ideas off each other. But he's the genius. I mean, I'm a writer. I write prose and poetry, but I haven't got the swing of songwriting yet," she said. Her second single, Top Tier, was released last September. She even performed it in front of a live audience.

"I'm an actress. I'm a host. I'm a performer. But delivering songs to a Jamaican audience on stage isn't scrimmage. I respect artistes who put a lot into their stagecraft, and I want to be stellar in that aspect as well," she added.
