Big Pop ‘Losing It’ again
Dancehall artiste Big Pop is a lighter figure these days as he celebrates losing 18 pounds in one week.
The deejay is aiming to weigh in at 250 pounds in the next six weeks as he continues his weight-loss journey on the televised weight-loss programme Losing It.
Big Pop is not a stranger to the show, as he won top prize in the competition's debut season in 2017, but has since regained the weight that he shed six years ago. He attributes the recent weight gain to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I gained a lot of weight in the 'corona' because mi stop go a gym. Gym lock down for nearly one, two years and nobody never really a come 'outta dem house, so mi decide say a it this, wi never know when we a go dead. So mi decide fi nyam everything until Father God ready fi wi, 'cause it looked like a it this. But when we realise say we a go live, mi jus tek gym fi it. Sharon called me and said they would like to invite me back to Losing It, and mi say sure."
Big Pop has admitted that getting into shape is harder the second time around.
"It really feels good enuh because the first time I did Losing It, mi did tek it serious still, but I was like, cho. But when me really come back inna this and a try tek off back the fat, mi realise say bwoy it serious, and dem time deh mi did much younger," he said.
He highlighted that guidance from his trainer, Chevaughn, and his own commitment to getting fit, have been motivating him to continue the process.
"Mi wah tell you say mi find myself a perform even longer now on stage shows without even losing breath. Right now I'm at the gym, even working out. I do a lot of cardio, elliptical, stepper, bicycle riding. My coach Chevaughn has a cycle class every Saturday and I try my best to always be there," Big Pop shared.
Recently married, the artiste explained that his wife is supportive of his weight loss and encourages him.
"She plays an excellent role, she does very good; she makes sure that she comes to the gym with me sometimes. She wah gain weight enuh, she no wah lose weight; so when she comes to the gym with me she sleeps in the car, she just pushes me. Health comes first enuh, and mi know she wouldn't want to lose her husband now," he noted.
A typical diet for Big Pop these days includes a lot of water.
"[In] dieting, mi feed pon my cabbage, mi green juice, cut out the sugar, cut out the salt. Mi protein and mi egg; mi tek out the yellow part. Mi protein inna mi egg, mi tuna, and I drink a lot of water, too," he shared.
