Sophia Brown not worried about album sales
Despite the fact that Jamaican music has been plagued by poor album sales in recent times, reggae singer Sophia Brown remains undaunted as she promotes her new album titled Bad for Me.
"Every artiste would like to enjoy some level of commercial success when they release an album, but that shouldn't be the only reason for recording an album. My albums are an expression of my creativity, my thoughts and experiences. My albums also allow me to create a bond with the people who support my music. So, it's more than just about album sales for me," she said. "Although I haven't sold gold or platinum, I have a growing fan base that supports my music. I don't believe that I would have such a strong fan base if I was only releasing singles so I'll continue to record and release albums."
The vivacious entertainer says she is pleased with the response that her album is receiving.
"I'm very happy with the response that my album is getting. It's receiving a lot of rotation from DJs in Jamaica, Africa, the US, Europe and England. It's also doing well on popular streaming platforms such as Apple Music and iTunes," said Brown.
The 10-track album, which was released in April on the MusicMecka imprint, is currently in the number five position on the Jamaica Music Countdown Top 10 Album Chart.
Over in New York, it's number five on the Foundation Radio Network Top 20 Album Chart and in South Florida, it's number seven on the South Florida Top 15 Album Chart.
The lead single from the album, which is the title track, is also making an impact on the charts in the US.
It's currently in the number 13 spot on the Foundation Radio Network Top 30 Chart in New York. It is also doing well in South Florida where it's number 16 on the South Florida Top 25 Reggae Singles Chart.
