Prepare yourself financially for marriage

March 01, 2016

OK, men, I hear you and here I thought, as they say, 'men don't read'. They obviously have the wrong set of men engaged. Anyway, I am going to discuss some more steps to help prepare you for marriage.

A man should prepare himself financially. We're told by various statistics that more marriages break up over finances than other issues. This shouldn't worry you in this 'prosperity' climate, but it should motivate you. Men, you should aspire to financial stability in whatever you do to earn. This doesn't guarantee a surplus of money or safeguard you from occasional unemployment. I am suggesting, however, that a man who is disciplined in his work ethic and wise with his resources is better prepared for marriage than one who is impulsive and discontent.

The kind of lady you want will be drawn to your financial character, not just the model of your car. More importantly, God is honoured by the wise use of every resource He lends you, whether dollars in your wallet, or hours in your workday, and I am saying even if you are a hustler, 'cause some serious dedicated hustlers outta road.

Some of you may be in debt or out of work, and the current financial picture is bleak, but you are not a hopeless cause. You will need to focus though on what you can do to improve your situation. What steps can you take to move toward financial freedom and gainful employment? Get yourself situated and moving forward, you know position is important, right, but we girls need money and it's not how much you earn only, but how much you share with us. This knowledge is critically important to our peace of mind and security, financially and otherwise.

Now on to sex, a man should prepare himself morally. Let's put the morality back into sex so we can enjoy great sex. Face it, we live in a sexy culture, it's everywhere in entertainment and conversation. One would think that sex is all there is to happiness and fulfilment, it's a good thing, just not everything. The man who enters marriage thinking that his wife is cut out of the same fabric as the seductresses, excuse me, actresses, he's seen on the television, eager to jump in bed at any moment and ready to resolve every conflict with sex is in for a terrible shock. A mutually pleasing sex life thrives on a good relationship, it doesn't drive one.

If you are unguarded in your intake of everything sexual, you set yourself up to be disappointed and to be a disappointment at lovemaking. Moral sexual behaviour requires a moral mindset. Why not take a 21-day sexual media fast? Do not watch movies of sexual content or use the Internet for such uses. If a conversation begins moving toward sexual immoral topics, excuse yourself. These 21 days may prove to be some of the best days of your sexual development. I know this is not what you want to hear, but it may be what you need; we will get sexier another time.
