Relative returns from overseas to find $390,000 worth of items missing
A Trelawny man who allegedly moved into a relative’s house while the family member was overseas is now facing criminal charges after $390,000 worth of items reportedly went missing from the property.
Charged is 47-year-old Andrew Brown, a maintenance worker of Hague District, Trelawny, who is facing charges of house breaking and larceny and malicious destruction of property.
According to the Falmouth police, the alleged break-in occurred at a house in Falmouth Garden sometime between August and October.
Reports are that about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, the relative returned to Jamaica from overseas after neighbours reportedly told him that Brown appeared to be living at the premises.
The relative, who had secured the house before leaving the island, checked the property and discovered that a window and a padlock at the rear had been damaged.
Further checks reportedly revealed that several items valued at approximately $390,000 were missing.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police.
On Tuesday, October 20, Brown turned himself in at the Falmouth Police Station, where he reportedly admitted to breaking into the house.
He was arrested and charged following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney.
His court date is being finalised.
