I want to free Clarendon North Western from the 'hands of the wicked', says JPP's Kevin Palmer

Jamaica Progressive Party's (JPP) candidate for Clarendon North Western, Kevin Palmer, has declared himself the "answered prayer" for a constituency he says has suffered decades of neglect.

"I am here, sent by our Father, to deliver this constituency drop the hands of the wicked," Palmer told journalists outside the Frankfield Resource Centre following his nomination at 10:00 a.m.

Palmer expressed confidence in his chances against the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Warren Newby, and former Member of Parliament Richard Azan, who was defeated in 2020 by the JLP's Phillip Henriques.

Henriques polled 6,075 votes to Azan's 5,936 in the last general election.

Palmer argued that neither major political party had served Jamaica or the constituency well.

"The people of Jamaica are fed up of these two main political parties, especially in this constituency. They have treated this constituency like a dungeon...like we have done Jamaica something," Palmer said.

Highlighting his personal connection to the area, Palmer added,

"I am a man of the soil. I was born and bred in this constituency. The struggles of the people, I also face it, and I can tell you, it's real."

Supporters of Azan have gathered near the nomination centre, where he is set to be nominated at 12:00 p.m., while the JLP's Warren Newby is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
