Man hospitalised after alleged shootout with police in St Catherine

St Catherine investigators are trying to ascertain the identity of a man who was injured during an armed confrontation with the police in the parish on Thursday.

Reports are that about 5:05 a.m., security personnel were on a targeted operation in Commodore district, Linstead.

Upon entering a premises, the team was allegedly challenged by the man, who was armed with a handgun.

The police took evasive action and returned fire, hitting the man.

An illegal gun was reportedly seized from his possession.

He was assisted to the Linstead Hospital, where he has been admitted.

The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing the matter.
