Peruvian dancer Alcani is taking the world by storm with her dancehall-inspired dance moves.

She has been dancing since age six, starting out with ballet, then taking the art more seriously within the past 10 years. It was only seven years ago that she decided to give her all to dancing professionally.

"The type of the dance that I used to do, I describe it as a healing movement, while still being dancehall. I use dance to express what I feel, whether it is good or bad, depending on any period of my life. I also love putting together dramatic pieces in which I execute a lot of concepts, knowledge, and everything I have learnt from training, classes, lectures with mentors and my teachers," the dancer said.

She has worked with international singers on high-quality artistic pieces, using their talent and dedication to create impressive dances. One of the highlights of her journey was the All Dance Peru competition, which she won in 2018.

"Even when I doubted at some point how to start, I studied for a long time. I invested my time, focus, and many things, which led me to this level. Additionally, I always listen to my body, as I believe that making that connection with yourself is very important in your walk of life," she said.

Having travelled around the world, Alcani has had great experiences in Jamaica, visiting three times so far and making unforgettable memories.

"I'm very thankful to my real masters, mentors and teachers from Jamaica. That great dance culture has allowed me to continue and reach this level in dance and in musical history. I consider every part of my journey to be integral in me reaching the level I'm at today, so I am very grateful," the dancer stated.

As she continues to dance up a storm, Alcani encouraged aspiring dancers to never stop going for a dream or goal, no matter what happens.

"It is always good to continue even when it feels like you're not gaining value, as each component of your journey helps unlock your full potential. Use your greatness to help others to shine, make sense in life and enjoy the process. Remember, you have one life to live," she advised.
