Freddy Browne gets deeper into global cannabis culture
US-based artiste and producer Freddy Browne says that cannabis culture is a major part of his life, and, in an effort to contribute to awareness, he has collaborated with a Jamaican singer-songwriter.
In recent times, Browne has worked with Devin Di Dakta and Shaggy, and, for his latest project Fry Eye, he has teamed up with Kingston-born creative Andre Fennell.
"It is part of my meditation process. I take any opportunity to talk about, write about and advocate for cannabis. For this particular production, I did not write the lyrics but I composed the music and the working chemistry between myself, and this artiste was magical," Browne told THE STAR.
"The song itself was inspired by the Red Light District in Amsterdam, where people have the freedom to just live life the way they choose, with no restrictions. Andre takes listeners through a smooth-sailing journey through cannabis freedom," he continued.
The song was released last Friday, with accompanying animated visuals. It will also be included in Browne's upcoming album, 17.
Browne named legendary production duo Sly and Robbie as his musical idols. They will be featured on a track from the album.
His production with Devin Di Dakta - Everybody Feel Nice (Skank and Move) - is also expected to be part of its track list.
After working with a handful of Jamaican talents, Browne asserted, "I'm open to collaborating with more because there is so much good music that comes from the island and I definitely want to be part of global industry that is contributing to it positively. It has only been all-around good energy with each project."
