U14, U16 champs kick-start second round
The defending ISSA Urban under-14 and under-16 champions Kingston College (KC) and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), respectively, will kick-start second-round action today in the junior football competitions.
In the under-14 urban Burger King competition, KC will host fierce rivals Calabar, while under-16 champions STATHS will take on St Catherine High at STATHS.
KC enjoyed a strong start in their title defence, recording a perfect run throughout the first round. They won all six games, leading the competition with the most goals scored, 52.
They are also the only team in the competition who are yet to concede a single goal.
For Calabar, it is expected to be an uphill battle as they qualified as one of the best third-placed teams.
They finished third in their group behind winners Hillel Academy and Campion College. Calabar scored 21 goals, but conceded 17, which is a cause for concern.
ISSA urban Mighty Malt under-16 champions STATHS are also set to kick off their second-round campaign with a perfect record. They won all six of their first-round matches, scoring 25 goals along the way.
St Catherine High advanced to the second round after finishing second in their group behind St George's College, and will enter the fixture as underdogs, as they hold the third-lowest goalscoring record of the second-round teams, having only netted 12 times this season.
Only Greater Portmore High, eight, and Hillel Academy, 10, have scored less this season.
St Catherine's record of seven goals conceded will also be cause for concern as they hold the joint fourth-worst defensive record.
All under-14 games are set to kick off at 1:15 p.m, with the under-16 games set for 3:30 p.m.
