Shaw’s penalties help Manchester City win
MANCHESTER, England:
Jamaican international Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw continued her stellar start to her 2025 Women's Super League (WSL) campaign, scoring two goals as Manchester City dominated the London City Lionesses 4-1 yesterday.
The 28-year-old Shaw netted twice from the penalty spot in the second half to put the contest to bed and propel City to third in the standings on nine points from four games, just behind Manchester United and Chelsea on 10 and 12 points, respectively.
It took her tally to the season to three goals and among the top three goal scorers in the WSL.
City took an early lead when Vivianne Miedema got on the end of a cross from Kerstin Casparij to head in from close range in the 11th minute, and three minutes later, Laura Blindkilde Brown doubled the lead with a low effort through a crowded box.
London City pulled a goal back when they stole possession following some casual defending and Nikita Parris found the corner of the net with a clinical finish on the turn to make it 2-1 in the 19th minute.
However, Shaw ensured City would take all three points by scoring from the spot in the 69th minute, following a handball by London City's Saki Kumagai, and then again in the 89th minute, after Wassa Sangare committed a foul in the box. - CMC
