Chef killed by stray bullet while lying in bed
A 29-year-old chef was shot dead in his bed after gunmen reportedly opened fire on another man in a terrifying late-night attack in Cedar Grove, Manchester, on Wednesday.
Dead is Dwayne Asmond Mitchell, a chef at Winning Streak Restaurant and Bar in Porus, Manchester, who resided on Johnson Street in Cedar Grove.
Reports are that about 8:57 p.m. on September 30, a 43-year-old man was walking home along a dirt track through a heavily vegetated area when he was reportedly ambushed by unknown assailants.
The attackers allegedly opened fire at the man, forcing him to make a desperate dash for safety.
As he ran, bullets reportedly ripped into an adjacent one-room board structure where Mitchell was lying in bed.
Mitchell was found with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
He was rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The scene was processed by police as detectives began piecing together the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
The 43-year-old man reportedly escaped without being hit.
Detectives attached to the Mandeville Criminal Investigation Branch are probing the incident.
