The nation is being called to action under the powerful slogan 'Jamaica Nice, Protect Wi Paradise' this Labour Day.

Olivia Grange, minister of culture, gender, entertainment and sport, announced that the focus for Workers' Week and Labour Day 2025 is the environment. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Grange reminded the nation of the deep connection between Jamaica's natural beauty and its cultural heritage.

"Our overall objective is to promote environmental awareness, encourage community involvement and inspire Jamaicans to act in protecting their environment," Grange said.

The National Labour Day Project will be the establishment of the Environmental and Research Park at Maison River, Clarendon -- an ecologically significant area with international recognition.

Designated as a protected site and Ramsar wetland, Maison River is home to rich biodiversity and vital ecosystem services. The project will be spearheaded by Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding.

Grange urged Jamaicans to embrace sustainable practices, such as proper waste disposal, park beautification and community clean-ups. She emphasised that protecting the environment not only sustains Jamaica's natural beauty but boosts public health, civic pride and economic vitality -- especially as tourism remains a key driver of growth.

"This is about more than property enhancement. It's about legacy. It's about ensuring we pass on a Jamaica that is clean, green and beautiful to our children," she said.
