Two Corporate Area men were remanded in custody by a senior parish judge, after they admitted to beating their babymothers.

The matters, which were heard in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, were condemned by Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque.

In the first matter, Gavin Chandler pleaded guilty to common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assaulting female. Chandler, the court heard, grabbed the complainant by her blouse.

"Your Honour, we were talking and it turn into a little dispute. Your Honour, I am asking you please to forgive me," Chandler pleaded. He explained that he was in a seven-year relationship with the complainant that ended this year and was "trying to get her back because she was such a good person to me".

"I think you must get drape up too. Where you are going, a deh so you ago get the drape up. Even if not physically but mentally," Cole-Montaque said.

"I don't know what came over me. I am begging for mercy," the defendant said.

"This is outrageous! I am not going to normalise this behaviour. People think that is only murder and shooting that is serious, but this is serious. I think you need a period of reflection," the senior jurist indicated.

Chandler was remanded in custody until October 13, when he is to be sentenced. He was made the subject of a fingerprint order.

In the second matter, Akeem Creary pleaded guilty to threat, common assault, use of indecent language and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court heard that there was an argument between Creary and his child's mother, after he alerted her that the child was not feeling well. The complainant shared that the argument turned physical and required the intervention of the police.

The investigator also shared that when Creary was taken to the police station, he told the complainant, "Me ago f*** yuh up, big p**** gal. Just wait till me come back down a di house. Me ago kill yuh."

"I have to make sure that you don't go back to the house then. Yuh affi run some time for that man," Cole-Montaque said. Creary also reportedly spat on the police officer and threatened him, saying, "Me memba yuh face."

But Creary explained that he was slapped in the face by the officer, which resulted in him uttering those words.

"Your Honour, please me a beg yuh some leniency," Creary pleaded.

But his cries were not heeded as the judge was adamant that his behaviour would not be tolerated.

"I am doing this so that next time your head get hot, you can remember this and say 'Head, cool down.' You're remanded in custody," Cole-Montaque ordered.

Creary was remanded until October 27, when he is to be sentenced.
