Glen Washington signs with new agency
In a move aimed at getting him into different markets, veteran singer Glen Washington recently signed with Guess What Entertainment, a booking agency operating out of the Dominican Republic.
Washington, whose hit songs include Kindness For Weakness and Consider Me, is excited about the new direction his career has taken.
"We have some good product out there, but to tell the truth things could have been better in terms of publicity. The albums would have done better if it wasn't for the pandemic, but we are confident Dominique [Pompee, a veteran show promoter] will do great things," he said.
Pompee, who is also a booking agent from Martinique, is head of Guess What Entertainment. He started the company in 2014, after years of promoting shows by top reggae acts, such as Anthony B, Sanchez and Queen Ifrica, in the French Caribbean.
He and Washington first met in his native land 20 years ago when the singer performed on a show there.
Washington made his name as a drummer in show bands in Jamaica and Detroit, Michigan during the 1970s and 1980s. Although he began his career as a vocalist in the late 1970s, his breakthrough came in 1999 with Brother to Brother, an album produced by the legendary Clement 'Coxson' Dodd.
His association with producer Lloyd Campbell was also fruitful. It produced the album, Get Next to You, which contained hit singles in Kindness For Weakness and Jah Glory.
