Leroy Smart sparkles at Uptown Mondayz’s anniversary
Surprise performance by Leroy Smart highlights Uptown Mondayz Anniversary
Veteran artiste Leroy Smart was the toast of Uptown Mondayz, as the surprise artiste at the popular weekly party's 21st anniversary event at its headquarters, Savannah Plaza, in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, last Monday.
Smart got plenty of forwards for his hit single Talk 'Bout Friends, among other tunes from his extensive catalogue. Smart was a household name from as far back as the 1970s and has featured on the local charts for decades. His remarkable voice and personality have consistently charmed his fans.
The anniversary edition of Uptown Mondayz was huge, not only because of crowd support, but also because it was a celebration of the dancehall genre.
There was a mixed audience, as reggae/dancehall fans from countries like Japan, Italy, Spain, Germany, US, Canada, UK and The Bahamas were in attendance.
The musical presentations were by stand-in selectors for the event, namely Boom Boom, and Harry Hype and DJ Mental.
Father Witty, the main man behind Uptown Mondayz, was a happy man as his hard work has borne fruit, with selectors and artistes have made the event a special one in the Corporate Area calendar.
While addressing the crowd, he hinted at maybe one day saying goodbye to the event, and called out for a successor even as he basked in the glory of his successes.
Here are the highlights.
