He lied about his age

Dear Pastor,

I met my boyfriend about a year ago. He told me he was 27. He was only 22 at the time and now he is 24. I have looked at his work ID and driver's licence, but I did not look at his date of birth because I didn't think he would lie to me about his age. I have read your columns where many times men lied to women about their age. So I don't understand why this has made me question myself and wonder what other lies this man has told me. I haven't said anything to him about it, but I am just wondering if I can trust him. Please give me your advice, Pastor.

A good relationship should never begin with lies. This man should not have lied to you and it is very difficult to trust a liar, but you should tell him that you have come to realise that he is much younger than he stated. Don't allow him to feel that you are still in the dark concerning his age. Tell him he should come clean about everything. If he is not willing to do so, end the relationship with him.
