TWO former champions, Cornwall College and St James High, will clash at the Cornwall College playing field at 3:30 p.m. when the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup kicks off today. Sixteen games are scheduled across the island with the seeded schools bowing into action.

Cornwall coach Leacroft Lettman said that after being eliminated from the Ben Francis KO competition, his team must now shift its focus to a different format.

“We have to start off today strong. This is the daCosta Cup now, where we’re going to play a zone game and then move into another zone. We have recuperated and are organised and we have got the boys upbeat and ready again,” said Lettman.

Meanwhile, St James High coach Bryan Stoney said they have prepared well.

“We are progressing pretty well with our preparation, and the players are getting more coachable now. This makes it a bit easier for me,” said Stoney.

Stoney stated that the team aims to secure another title for the school and build on its history as former champions.

“Our objective might sound strange, but it’s to win the daCosta Cup. If we are going to win we have to get them used to our playing style. We have to make players know their positions and understand exactly what they must do,” added Stoney.

In a St Elizabeth derby, defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) will face Maggotty High in Group A at the STETHS Sports Complex.

STETHS, who are known for slow starts in previous seasons, will look to shake things up quickly as they begin their title defence.

Maggotty, meanwhile, will be hoping to make things challenging for the Omar ‘Rambo’ Wedderburn-coached STETHS team.

Though it will be a tough task, Maggotty will enter today’s game with a determined mentality and a strong desire to win.
