The corruption conviction of Senior Superintendent of Police, James Forbes, was overturned in the Court of Appeal this morning.

James has now been freed.

Forbes was found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice and fined $800,000 or six months at hard labour in 2014.

The charge stemmed from a meeting he admitted to "facilitating" between businessman Bruce Bicknell and two police sergeants who had arrested Bicknell for allegedly offering one of them a bribe during an April 2012 traffic stop.

The senior police officer, though his attorneys, denied brokering any agreement and insisted that at the time of the meeting he was never aware that the businessman had been arrested and charged.
