Active COVID cases soaring

Jamaica's active cases of COVID-19 has almost doubled in a little more than two weeks.

On September 1, the country had 1,476 active cases, but yesterday, September 15, that number had reached 2,753.

Yesterday, the island recorded 109 new cases, bringing the total number of positive COVID cases to 4,042.

The island also recorded two more COVID-related deaths, bringing that total to 46. The latest fatalities are a 44-year-old female from Manchester with a history of hypertension and diabetes, and an 87-year-old female from Clarendon with a history of hypertension. This case was previously under investigation. Five other deaths are still being investigated.

There were also two more recoveries, bringing that total to 1 ,163. On September 1, 890 persons had recovered from the illness.
