Shanna-Kay Sterling has no recollection of ever laying eyes on her parents, Sandra and Barrett Sterling. The 27-year-old woman, who currently lives in Thompson Town, Clarendon, is seeking the public's assistance in finding her parents and other family members.

Sterling said she was born at 21 Love Lane in Montego Bay, St James, and spent most of her pre-adult years in childcare facilities.

"I honestly don't even remember how I ended up in the home or what age I was when I got there. I never really hear the story of why my parents gave me over to the State either. I have never seen a photograph of them or anything. Only connection I have to them is my birth certificate," she said.

Desire to connect

The mother of a three-month-old daughter, Sterling says that her main desire is to be able to connect with her roots.

"When the other children were getting visits from their families, I never got any. I never met any of my relatives - no cousins, aunts, or anyone.

I was told that I have siblings, but I don't know their names. This situation makes me really sad because I feel like an alien.

I feel alone at times, and I have cried day and nights. I have tried searching for them, but it is like I don't know where to start looking," she said.
