Job Lane reflects on the biblical character
In the Old Testament, Job is presented as a good and prosperous family man who is beset by Satan, with horrendous disasters that take away all that he holds dear, including his offspring, his health, and his property.
He struggles to understand his situation and begins a search for the answers to his difficulties. The Bible also teaches that Job was not only a man of God, but one of extreme faith. Admitting that they are not as upright as Job, the residents of Jobs Lane, Spanish Town, are still confident that he would be extremely proud of community.
"Job would a shake off all a we hand. One time, politics use to segregate the youth dem, but all a that stop. A bare peace the man dem a deal with. People is dem brother's keeper round here suh," Christine said.
Jobs Lane is a small community located next door to Friendship in St Catherine.
"We may not have faith like him because me nuh think nuh human have dem type a faith deh, to put up with Satan and him bag a test dem so long. If is a Jamaican man, him woulda buss two shot inna the devil long time, but Job know say we a good people round here so. We nuh rich, but di man dem naah tief to get rich, so him woulda happy say we have faith say tings a guh turn one day," Tristan said.
The characters in the Book of Job include his wife, his three friends (Bildad, Eliphaz, and Zophar), and Elihu.
Job, when faced with adversities, was told to curse God, but he remained a believer in God.
