Bobby Sky1 looks to make ‘Progress’ in 2023
Dancehall deejay Bobby Sky1 wants to dedicate 2023 towards the idea of progress, and has released a single of the same name to underline his mindset.
"The song is to give inspiration to youths out there who want better. Mi want a change , mi deh round a certain set of crowd and it nah work. So mi ah look towards greatness. In the streets, I have been stabbed in the back by friends and experienced betrayal. So this song is just a reminder to myself that progress is impossible without change," Bobby Sky1 said.
The song, which was released on the Sky Nation Records and Reno Don Beatz labels, will be one of the tracks from his debut EP which he will be releasing in the summer.
Bobby Sky1, whose given name is Phillip Jackson, grew up in a Christian home in Kitson Town, St Catherine, with both parents, where he was exposed to a wealth of music as a child, which influenced his development. He attended Tacius Golding High School and Children First. Once he finished his secondary education, he poured all his energies into fine-tuning his sound.
First, he experimented with rap music, showing up on a well-received cameo on the Jonnah single, Money ah De Topic. Now, he has combined all his influences, from hip hop, reggae and trap music, to create his own distinct sound.
