DJ Tatiana keeps them dancing

DJ Tatiana, one of the selectors from the 2019 Guinness Sounds of Greatness champion sound, High Grade International Sound, is getting ready to embark on her first international tour.

The young selector, whose given name is Tatiana Campbell, jets off to Canada later this month where she will share the stage with the likes of Tony Matterhorn, Boom Boom, Anthony B, Chronic Law and Posh Morris.

The Alpha High School graduate said she became involved in entertainment at the age of 16, having been raised in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew. She recalled being around legendary artistes and selectors who often stopped by her home from time to time to visit her dad, Big Sip, of Sipo Records.

"I grew up listening to various dancehall cassettes and CD's, among my favourites was Bass Odyssey, Jam One Sound, Fire Links, Black Scorpio and the distinct sounds and voice projection from Bounty Killer would grab my attention every time, and it is safe to say that's the vault where my inspiration and burning desire to play music came from," said DJ Tatiana.

The young selector said that with music all around her, it was easy for her to follow her passion and pursue music as a career.

"All I wanted was a laptop to showcase my talent and the experience teachings of Moody Nash from Swatch Int'l Sound and I didn't look back from there," she said.

The young DJ said that having a dad who is supportive of her career has helped. She reasoned that it is not easy, as a woman, to participate in the male-dominated field, and said more should be done to facilitate the inclusion of the fairer sex.

"It is extremely important for us females to get equal recognition as our male counterparts because we have earned our place in the reggae and dancehall arena," she said.

"Women should never be made to feel like they have to play a supporting role in the music, we have the drive to contribute our talents, which can only enrich the culture and edify future aspirants," she said.
