For Dexta Daps, the increased violence against women and children that has been plaguing Jamaica should be treated with more urgency and the dancehall deejay believes he has a solution to the problem.

After delivering a stirring performance for Reggae Sumfest 'The Return', Dexta Daps preached to THE STAR reasons why "every law-abiding citizen" should have some means of protection.

"I mean me say it before, enuh. Everybody need to protect them own life, man or woman [so] we need to incorporate something in Jamaica where the people can defend themselves because it's going to be super hard to fix the whole state of our country," Dexta Daps said in his interview.

"Give people the right to bear arms. It's the only thing I can see creating a change. In Florida guns are legal, so what's stopping us here? It scary but put it this way...me have a weapon and you have a weapon, you think me a go think fi try fi rob you? No, cause me a go think say you can harm me too," he continued.

As a male artiste who caters to the women with his music, Dexta Daps said that females have strength that should not be taken for granted.

He said, "Them see di women dem as weak, that's why many of dem [criminals] approach dem so and do wah dem feel like. But if them know a woman will just 'brap, pop, pop' dem will behave themselves."

To the idea of females investing or being enrolled in self-defence classes, the Grow Rough artiste-songwriter said it would be another means of raising awareness and educating the youth in responsible ways to protect themselves.

"How old do you think Americans start classes like these from? Like age four, so what's wrong with Jamaica? It's just to incorporate steps that control certain things. It kinda grimy but these are the solutions me think a go fix things," Dexta Daps said.

The hitmaker said that he is working hard to be an exemplar for Jamaica's music culture. In 2015, he became popular on both the local and international scene with the release of his single 7Eleven. He quickly followed up with Shabba Madda Pot and has consistently been releasing party bangers.

"I'm just making sure brand dancehall and brand reggae reach where it supposed to reach and do a lot and represent. Everybody weh say Dexta Daps and support me, me love, unuh. It's been a long five, six, seven years and I'm overwhelmed. Listen me, me love everybody," he said.
