Damion Hype wins award for short film
Jamaica-born Damion Lumsden, also known as Damion Hype is relishing his achievements in the US.
He was recently awarded the Best Supporting Actor in The Mid-South Black Film Festival 2022 for his role in the short film Girl Wake Up, which was filmed in Memphis, Tennessee.
"Honestly, I'm grateful and thankful that I was given the opportunity. My music has been making waves in the US and I was approached by Danni Lee, who is the writer and director of Girl Wake Up, and the rest was history," said Damion Hype. "This will definitely open doors for more Jamaican entertainers and, once they put in the 'hard work', they will definitely achieve their goals. If you continue to work hard and believe in your talents, you can do anything. Most importantly, treat every opportunity like it's the biggest," he added.
Damion Hype is very optimistic about his latest project, an EP titled My Version which was released last Friday.
"I believe that there's a song on there for everyone. The songs were all produced by my label NuWav3 Records, and it's our first official project under the label. So I'm really excited to be here sharing it with the world. My Version actually has a few songs from my first album titled Yard Fusion. That's expected to be released sometime this year," he said.
Damion Hype's music has an international flavour. He also has a few collaborations with American artistes such as Big Boogie. They collaborated on Damion Hype's song Above the Wata and Bad Gal Remix, which has been getting a lot of radio plays in the US and increasing views on YouTube. Both songs were also produced by NuWav3 Records.
